Our History
Banner Up Signs is a family-owned sign company built on craftsmanship, problem-solving, and long-term relationships. Founded in 1986, the business has grown alongside the evolution of the sign industry—adapting to new technologies, materials, and methods while maintaining a hands-on, detail-driven approach.
What began as a small operation producing banners and temporary signage has evolved into a full-service sign company serving businesses, organizations, and institutions throughout Northern Illinois.
A FOUNDATION BUILT ON EXPERIENCE
The Banner Up story began with Ed Kuhn, whose background in hands-on fabrication and practical problem-solving shaped the company’s early direction. From the beginning, the focus was simple: do the work right, stand behind it, and build solutions that last.
As the sign industry transitioned from hand-cut vinyl and paper-based processes to digital production and precision fabrication, Banner Up embraced the change—investing in equipment, training, and processes that allowed the company to grow without losing quality or control.
GROWING WITH PURPOSE
Today, Banner Up operates from its Sycamore facility and produces a wide range of signage, from vehicle graphics and architectural signage to custom fabrication and branded environments. While much of the work is completed in-house, Banner Up also maintains a trusted network of partners to support specialized production needs—ensuring every project meets the same standards of quality and consistency.
The team understands that signage is rarely just about the sign itself. Local zoning regulations, site conditions, timelines, and long-term durability all play a role. That experience allows Banner Up to guide clients toward the right solution—not just the fastest or flashiest one.
